Week of May 6-10, 2019

Hello Families,
I can't believe it's May! The end of the year will be here before we know it, but we have lots of work to do between now and then.

Please see below for lots of upcoming events and learning

Important Dates

Tuesday, 5/7: $1 free dress day. The money earned for this day will go to help with our school's two Girls on the Run teams' community impact project. The Tuesday/Thursday team is raising money for their project for kids in UCD, and the Monday/Wednesday team (I coach this one!) is raising money to help fund their project to benefit foster children in the CPS system.

Friday, 5/10: Room 4 to work in the school garden, 10:00-10:30. If you'd like to help, please stop in! We need helpers and the kids love it when their parents come to lead garden activities.

Friday, 5/24: Room 4 to work in the school garden, 10:00-10:30. Again, the more the merrier! Come help if you can!

Wednesday, May 29 (note date change): Open House, 5:30 pm. Bring your whole family and come check out all of the work we have done this year! The kids will give you a tour of the classroom and there will be an art show in the cafeteria.

Monday, 5/27: NO SCHOOL: Memorial Day

Friday, 5/31: Free dress

Tuesday, June 11th: KINDER PLAY DAY; 9-12. Mark your calendars for this family event! We will join the other three kinder classes out on the fields for a morning of games and crafts before we have a family picnic. The games and crafts will run from 9 until 11 and then we will have lunch outside. We will need lots of parent volunteers for this. If you have any ideas for games or crafts, please let me know. I will be posting sign-ups for parents to help and send in snacks for this on Monday May 13

Language Arts
This week we will begin unit 9, Meeting Our Needs and Wants. We will read about and discuss the choices people make every day reagarding wants and needs.
We will focus on reading and spelling words with the /z/ and /x/ sounds.

The kids will continue working on drafting their narratives.

Math
This week we begin module 5 on numbers to 100. We will focus this week on finding groups of 10 and counting on from 10 to find numbers 11-20. For example, when we have a group of 10 and 4 more, we quickly know we have 14 total.

Thanks for reading! Please don't hesitate to email or stop by with questions or concerns.
