Week of April 29-May 3, 2019

Hello families,
It's been a fantastic first week back after spring break. Your children didn't miss a beat; they got right back inot our routines and have given their best all week.
This is a fun time of year in kindergarten and at Phoebe Hearst. Homerun Reader forms will go home today, and even if your child did not earn a free Rivercats ticket you can still purchase discounted tickets for your family for the game on Friday May 3.
We are looking forward to our school's open house and art show at the end of May, some mornings working in the school garden, and finally, kindergarten play and family picnic day on Tuesday June 11.

Here is what we have coming up:

Important Dates:

Tuesday, 4/30: kindergarten to morning announcements for Rivercats fun before the Homerun Reader game on Friday 5/3

Friday, 5/10: Room 4 to work in the school garden, 10:00-10:30. If you'd like to help, please stop in! We need helpers and the kids love it when their parents come to lead garden activities.

Wednesday, May 22: Open House, 5:30 pm. Bring your whole family and come check out all of the work we have done this year! The kids will give you a tour of the classroom and there will be an art show in the cafeteria.

Friday, 5/24: Room 4 to work in the school garden, 10:00-10:30. Again, the more the merrier! Come help if you can!

Monday, 5/27: NO SCHOOL: Memorial Day

Friday, 5/31: Free dress

Tuesday, June 11th: KINDER PLAY DAY; 9-12. Mark your calendars for this family event! We will join the other three kinder classes out on the fields for a morning of games and crafts before we have a family picnic. The games and crafts will run from 9 until 11 and then we will have lunch outside. We will need lots of parent volunteers for this. If you have any ideas for games or crafts, please let me know. I will be posting sign-ups for parents to help and send in snacks for this on Monday May 13

Language Arts
This week we will wrap up our 8th unit on weather and the seasons. We will focus on the /v/ and /kw/ (q) sounds. The kids are finishing planning some amazing stories that they will publish before open house on 5/22.

Math
We are nearing the end of our math module on number pairs and addition and subtraction to 10. I will teach the final lessons this week and then begin module 5 on numbers 10-20 and counting to 100.
