Hello everyone!
We've had a productive week in Room 4. The kids have been working so hard on learning how to share their opinions in writing. They definitely deserve a week off!

Friday, 4/17: Science Night; more info to follow.
Spirit free dress day: Twin Day

Saturday, 5/16: PH art walk at PH. This is a fun day to come to school and check out the art the kids have been working on all year. There are usually crafts and activities as well as snacks for sale.

Wednesday, 5/27: Open House. This will be in the evening. It's a fun night for your family to come see all of the kindergarten work on display in Room 4.

Language Arts
This week we continue to work on blending sounds and letters to make words. We have begun to work on more and more complicated words, and the kids have risen to the challenge!
Letter/sound focus: /z/, /w/, and /k/.
For writing we will review informational/expository writing.

Math
This week we will finish up our unit on measurement and take our test.

Lost and Found
We still have lots of sweaters and sweatshirts that belong to Room 4 kids. I put them on the hooks in the hallway outside our door. If your child is missing anything please check these items.

Week of March 23-30, 2015

Hello Room 4 families,
It was another super week in room 4. The kids have been working away on their reading and writing, and I am proud to say everyone scored 100% on a recent math test. Way to go kindergarteners!
Thank you to everyone who came to support our talented kids this week at the talent show. I'd like to send a special congratulations to Hazel H who played her violin in the show and Cadell, who showcased his hip hop moves on stage. Great job, you two!

Here is what we have coming up:

Important Dates:

Friday, 3/20: The Event, 6:30-9:30 pm at the Elks Tower Ballroom on 11th and J. This is a really fun night to socialize with Phoebe Hearst parents and raise money for the school. Thank you to our room moms who organized a Room 4 Lego basket for the silent auction, and to everyone who donated Lego items. The basket will be awesome.
The other kindergarten teachers and I will have a "Pirate Pizza Party" in the silent auction. There will be one top bidder for each teacher, and each winning bidder will get to invite 3 friends to a pirate pizza party in Room 2. It's always a good time, and it raises money for technology at PH!
***It's not too late to buy tickets either online or at the door, so if you have a last-minute opportunity for a night out, come to The Event!***

This week we will wrap up our work with forming and sharing opinions orally and in writing. The kids' writing is looking FANTASTIC. The majority of kids are now in the habit of beginning their paragraphs with a topic sentence. We are working on concluding sentences. You can help with this at home by reminding you child to start his or her homework writing with a topic sentence. Thank you!
Letter/sound focus: short e, /x/, and /z/

Math
We have begun a uinit on measurement. During this unit we will focus on measuring and comparing length, weight, and capacity.
