Week of March 18-22, 2013

Good afternoon Room 4 Families!
We had a great week in Room 4. The kids amaze me every day with how much they are learning and the fantastic progress they are making.

Important Dates:
Friday, March 22: Free dress day
Monday, 3/25-Friday, 3/29: NO SCHOOL; spring break :)
Wednesday, April 17: walking field trip to Trader Joe's and East Portal Park, 9:30-12:30
Friday, April 26th: Fairytale Town field trip

Language Arts
This week we will finish up our Red, White and Blue unit. The kids have learned a lot about US symbols and  patriotism.
We will focus on the sounds of /g/ and /j/ this week.
For writing we will finish paragraphs about a US symbol.
Please continue to have your kids practice reading and writing as much as possible at home. If they want, they can keep a daily journal where they draw and then write about their day.

Math
This week we will begin chapter 10 on Geometry. The objectives of this week's lessons are to identify and describe solids shapes such as spheres, cones, cubes, and cylinders; to sort 3-dimensional objects, and to match the surfaces of 3-dimensional shapes to plane shapes.

Social Studies
This week we will finish the chapter about America. We will talk about the presidents on our coins and paper money and the symbols of California.

Field Trips
We will be taking a walking field trip to Trader Joe's and East Portal Park on Wednesday, April 17. At Trader Joe's we will get to see the back of the store and how the workers get the store ready for customers. The kids will learn about how TJ's donates food to a food bank. They will also each get a couple of items that they will get to scan at the register. After our tour we will walk to East Portal to eat lunch and run around a little bit. THANK YOU to Sarah Z'berg for setting this up for us! We will need chaperones for this trip, so if you would like to come with us and you have been fingerprinted with the district, please let me know.

We will also be going to Fairytale Town on April 26th. We will be taking a bus on this trip with the other 2 kinder classes. The cost for this trip is $2.25 per person, including chaperones. We will be leaving at 9:30 and returning by 12:30. Again, we will need chaperones for this trip so if you have been fingerprinted and would like to accompany us, we would love to have you! Please let me know.

Have a great weekend, families! Please email if you have questions or concerns.
