Week of September 2-6, 2013

Hello new room 4 families!
This website takes the place of weekly bulletins in room 4. I will post each Friday afternoon about what will be happening in our classroom the following week(s). Please check here for information regarding curriculum, parent volunteer opportunities, and special events.

Important Dates:
Tuesday, 9/3: first day! I will see you in the Room 4 line in the Kindergarten yard at 8:10am. At 8:30am there will be a parent coffee in the cafeteria. I encourage all of you to attend this event which is put on by the PTO.

Friday, 9/13: movie night. This is a fun night out for Phoebe families. The movie, which is a surprise, begins at dark. There will be food available. Bring a blanket and chairs and enjoy!

Tuesday, 9/17, 5:30pm: back-to-school night. At this event I will share important room 4 information regarding class procedures, homework, field trips, etc.

THANK YOU to everyone who attended the orientation and ice cream social last night. I had a great time meeting all of you. I hope coming to the room and seeing me helped to alleviate any anxiety your kids may be feeling.

This week we will be very busy in room 4 getting to know each other and learning about the rules and procedures of our classroom and school. We will be reading lots of books about starting school and about how to be a good friend. We will do a lot of talking, drawing, and writing about starting school, making friends, and treating each other with respect.

One book we will read this week is called "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" This book teaches kids that we all have an invisible bucket we carry around with us. When our bucket is full we feel good, and when our bucket is empty we feel bad. The book says we can fill each others' buckets with kind words and actions. This is called bucket filling. We can also dip into peoples' buckets when we say or do unkind things. This is called bucket dipping. Talk to your child about what they have learned from this book, and reinforce this "bucket" language at home if possible.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Enjoy your Labor Day weekend. If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me any time at either Carrie-relles@scusd.edu or carrie.relles@gmail.com
I check both daily.
I will see your kids on Tuesday!
