Week of October 7-11, 2013

Hello Room 4 Families,
October has gotten off to a great start in Room 4. Your children impress me every day with their excitement for learning and with their willingness to work hard. I tell them all the time I am the luckiest teacher, and I mean it!

Here is what we have coming up:

Friday, October 11: Free Dress day for $1. The money raised goes to the 6th grade Sly Park trip. If your child wears free dress, s/he can just hand me a dollar when we walk in the door.

Saturday, October 12: Harvest Festival, 4-9 pm

Monday, October 14: Room 4 art lesson, 10:00-10:45am. Thank you to Ramona Harvan and Stephenie Shah, who volunteered to help out during this lesson.

Friday, October 18: Room 4 will work in the school garden, 10:00-10:45am. We still need 1-2 parents to help with this. Thank you to Ramona Harvan, Bob Lipman, and Tiffani Winter, who have already volunteered to help.
This day is also "class color spirit day". Kindergarteners should wear red

Tuesday, October 22: Pumpkin patch field trip. Please send the permission slip and $5.50 to school if you have not already done so. We now have 8 parent/grandparent volunteers for this. If you are fingerprinted and want to chaperone a field trip, please look out for our next date (TBA).

Friday, October 25: Free dress day/Jog-a-Thon (schedule to follow with our running time)

Thursday, October 31: Black and orange spirit day (no costumes)

For writing, we will begin working on an opinion piece about our favorite story we've read this year.

Math:
This week we continue our unit on numbers 0-5. The kids have been doing a fantastic job with counting objects to and writing numbers to 5.
Thank you for your support with this at home.

Lost and Found
With cold mornings and warm afternoons, kids are taking off their sweaters/sweatshirts and leaving them at school. Please clearly label sweaters and jackets with your child's name. If you are missing anything, there are a couple of items in room 4 with no names. If your child leaves an item in the cafeteria, there is also a lost and found in there.

Old magazines?
If you have any old magazines or catalogs at home, please send them in to Room 4. We can use them for a couple of projects we have coming up.

If there is anyone who would like to fill in for another parent during centers time this Tuesday October 8 (8:10-9:00) please let me know.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Have a super weekend.
