Week of February 25-March 1, 2019

Hello families,
What a week of work we've had! The kids are becoming very independent, motivated little learners. It's wonderful to see!

Here's what we have coming up:

Important Dates

Wednesday, March 13: Folsom Zoo field trip, 9:00-12:30. The permission slip and chaperone volunteer form for this will go home on Monday. I am going to give priority to those parents who have not yet chaperoned a filet trip. Thanks for understanding.

March 18-22: Minimum days for parent/teacher conferences. Kindergarten dismissal is at 11:40 all week. Conferences are scheduled only as needed. I will send conference notices through email February 28th. If you do not get an email, this indicates your child is performing at or above grade level. However, if you are interested in a conference I am happy to meet! Just send me an email after the 28th.

Thursday, March 21: Phoebe's Got Talent school talent show at Sutter Middle School in the evening. Our very own Aryana will be performing!

Language Arts
This week we wrapped up our unit about technology at home and school. Monday we will begin unit 6, Stories Have a Message. We will explore the essential question, "How do we know what is right?" and we will read many stories to determine their message and compare the messages of different stories.
In writing we are working on sharing opinions. The kids will finish a paragraph explaining which they prefer: sledding or ice skating.
This week we will also celebrate everyting Dr. Seuss and rhyming. If you have Dr. Seuss books at home, your kids are welcome to bring them in to share with the class. Please be sure to clearly label all books with names.

Math
This week our focus is the decompostion of 6, 7, and 8 into number pairs. The kids are doing well with taking the homework each day. Thanks for helping them with organization!

Thanks for reading! Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.
