Week of November 9-13, 2015

Hello Room 4 families,
November is in full swing in Room 4! We have a lot going on this month, and the kids are working so hard every day.
Here is what we have coming up:

Important Dates

Monday 11/9: School picture day. Please send your envelope with payment or your online receipt with your child to school on Monday. We will be taking our pictures at about 9:30. Students have free dress.

Wednesday, 11/11: Veterans' Day; NO SCHOOL

Friday, 11/20: shortened days and parent/teacher conferences begin. At 11;50 I will walk the class to the cafeteria, where they can either be picked up immediately or eat lunch until 12:20 and then go home. 4th R students will eat lunch and then get picked up by 4th R staff at 12:20. Shortened days will continue through 12/4.
Please look for an email from me today regarding parent/teacher conference appointments. I am looking forward to meeting with everyone to discuss all the progress your kids have made!

11/23-11/27: Thanksgiving Break; NO SCHOOL

Language Arts
This week we will finish up our unit on telling stories through pictures. Your child is now familiar with characters, setting, problems and resolutions, how words and illustrations work together in stories, and how authors convey characters' emotions. These are all things you can talk with your child about while reading together.
For the next couple of weeks kids have become letter experts. Each student has been working with one or two others as "experts" of various letters I assigned to them. This week kids are encouraged to bring small items from home that begin with their letter. We will display the items in room 4, and the kids will take them home next week. Please see below for a list of the experts.
New sight words: do, has, who

Math
This week we are working on chapter 5 on numbers to 20. In the homework you will see we are working on counting to, grouping items to, and writing numbers up to 20.

Parent help needed!
We would love to have someone to fill in during our centers time (8:10-9:00am) on Mondays for the rest of November. If you are interested in helping please let me know. We will be most appreciative!

Letter Expert groups--kids can bring in small items that begin with their letter any day this week.
