October 14-18, 2013

Happy Friday! We had a great week in room 4. The kids are having fun and working hard.

Here is what we have coming up:

Saturday, October 12: Harvest Festival, 4-9 pm

Monday, October 14: Room 4 art lesson, 10:00-10:45am. Thank you to Ramona Harvan and Stephenie Shah, who volunteered to help out during this lesson.
Book orders are also due on Monday. Please make your purchases at scholastic.com/readingclub using our online classroom code! FNJKK

Friday, October 18: Room 4 will work in the school garden, 10:00-10:45am. We still need 1-2 parents to help with this. Thank you to Ramona Harvan, Bob Lipman, and Tiffani Winter, who have already volunteered to help.
This day is also "class color spirit day". Kindergarteners should wear red

Tuesday, October 22: Pumpkin patch field trip. Please send the permission slip and $5.50 to school if you have not already done so. We now have 8 parent/grandparent volunteers for this. If you are fingerprinted and want to chaperone a field trip, please look out for our next date (TBA).
Also, please note we will be eating a picnic lunch at the pumpkin patch. Children should bring their lunches. We will not have the option to buy lunch in the cafeteria.

Friday, October 25: Free dress day/Jog-a-Thon (schedule to follow with our running time)

Monday, October 28-Friday, November 1: Kids Can Food Drive. More information to follow.

Thursday, October 31: Black and orange spirit day (no costumes)

Language Arts
This week we will focus on the letter shapes of Qq, Rr, Ss, and Tt
New sight words: he, she
For the next two weeks we will be learning, reading, and writing about pumpkins. As you probably know the kids are super excited for our pumpkin patch field trip. This week we will learn about how pumpkins grow, and next week we will conduct some experiments using our pumpkins. It should be fun!

Math
This week we will begin our next chapter on numbers 6-10. We will be practicing counting objects up to 10, ordering numbers to 10, comparing numbers to 10, and writing numbers to 10. We are working very hard on not reversing numbers when writing.

Need parent hours? If anyone would like a project to take home, I have something for you! Come by room 4.

Thanks for reading, everyone! Have a fabulous weekend.
