Week of October 8-12, 2018

We had such a great week in Room 4!
For those of you who missed the school announcements this morning, our Jog-a-Thon totals are in, and together we raised $94,000 to support the arts at Phoebe Hearst. For those who are new to our school, this is $15,000 more than last year, and nearly $50,000 more than 5 years ago. I am so lucky to teach and send my children to a school where we work so hard to give our kids enrichment programs. THANK YOU to all of the Room 4 families for your donations. We have 100% participation this year.

Congrats to our classroom's first Golden Dragon winner, Dylan!

Here is what we have coming up:

Language Arts
This week we will wrap up our first comprehension unit on rules at school and at home. We will read a story this week and compare it to last week's informational text.
We will continue to work on letter sounds and shapes. Our focus will be Aa (short and long sounds)
Our new sight word is like.

Math
This week we continue working on numbers to 10. Kids will work on finding pairs that are "hiding" within larger numbers, like 5 and 3 making 8.

Science
This week we focus on the parts and lifecycle of pumpkins as we prepare for our field trip at the end of the month.

Today we had our first music lesson with Mrs. Toone. Photo below :)

Thanks for reading! Have a great weekend!
