Week of September 15-19, 2014

Happy Friday Room 4 Families!
It's been a super week in Room 4. We are settling in to our routine and working hard every day.

Here is what we have coming up:

Important Dates
Friday, September 19: Family Movie Night
Wednesday, September 24: Back-to-School Night, 5:30-7. I will talk to parents/guardians about room 4 curriculum, procedures, our expectations for the year, etc. I will also answer any questions you have.
Friday, September 26: free dress day/Apple Day. On this day all kindergarteners are asked to bring an apple to school. We will be using them throughout the day and then eating them at the end of the day.
Wednesday, October 1: Homerun Reader kickoff at morning announcements. We will join the 1st-6th grades on the main yard in the morning for this.

I am working on finalizing the date for our pumpkin patch field trip in October. If you think you would like to come with us on any field trips this year you must be fingerprinted with the Sac City district. You can have this done at the Serna Center. It usually takes 30 working days for us to receive your clearance, so I encourage you to have this done as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have questions.

Homework
I have had a few questions about homework--mostly from people who are anxious to get started on it! Homework will begin the week of the 22nd. Each Friday I will email parents the packet for the following week. Your child will have 2-3 pages to work on each night. Homework is due to school on Friday mornings. Look for the first packet in your email on Friday the 19th!

Language Arts
This week we continue to focus on listening for sounds, rhyming, and letter shapes.
I will introduce our first sight word this week: the
We will be reading more books about starting school and being good friends.

Math
This week we are working on sorting shapes by color, shape, and size.

Thanks for reading, everyone!
If you have questions or concerns please don't hesitate to send me an email or stop by room 4.
Have a relaxing weekend.
