Week of November 11-15, 2013

Happy Friday, everyone!

We have been very busy this week with letter expert groups, writing about our favorite season, painting turkeys, and doing some testing for report cards. The kids have been working so hard. They are awesome.
Here is what we have coming up:

Monday, November 11: Veterans' Day Holiday. No school

Friday, 11/15: Art lesson, 10:15-11:00am.Thanks to the parents and grandparents who volunteered to help during this. We will also have classroom centers on this day from 8:15-9am. Thanks to Brenda Rodrigez, Sarah Kirchgessner, Bob Lipman, and Jennifer Moreno, who volunteered to help with centers.

Friday, 11/22: Art lesson, 10:15-11:00am.Thanks to the parents and grandparents who volunteered to help during this.

Friday, November 15-Friday, November 22: shortened days for parent/teacher conferences. Please note kindergarteners are dismissed on these days at 12:20 from the cafeteria. I walk them to lunch at 11:50, and you can pick them up there.
If you haven't signed up for a conference day and time, please do so. The schedule/sign-up sheet is posted in the back of Room 4. Also, please watch for a conformation email with dates and times for everyone's conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you!

Friday, November 22: Picture Day

Monday, November 25-Friday, November 29: Thanksgiving Holiday; no school.

Monday, Dec. 2-Friday, Dec. 6: Scholastic Book Fair at school. Schedule to follow.

Language Arts:
This week we continue our unit on Finding Friends.
New sight words: none this week.
We will continue the activities with the letter expert groups. Thanks to everyone who sent in items that begin with your child's expert letter. This week we will focus more on the sounds these letters make and practice making words with them.
We will also continue with oral blending of word parts. The kids love this and are very good at it!
Writing: We will work on journal writing, writing sentences for a friendship book, and  we will begin working on a paragraph about how to make breakfast.

Math:
We are continuing the chapter on graphing. So far the kids love collecting data and turning it into a graph. Please watch for lots of this in our homework!

Thanks for reading, everyone. Please email me at carrie.relles@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.
