Week of March 4-8, 2013

Hello Room 4 Families,
We had another great week in Room 4. Thank you to everyone for meeting with me for parent/teacher conferences. I enjoyed talking with each of you about the progress your children are making.

Important dates:
Today: Science Night, 6-8 pm at school
Friday, March 8: State Capitol field trip. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to come. I need to turn names in to Tammy on Tuesday. We will leave school at 9 am and return by 11.
March 25-29: Spring Break

Language Arts:
The kids are enjoying reading about the USA and patriotism. This week we will read a story about a 4th of July parade and talk about ways people celebrate our country.
We will focus on the sounds of short o, /b/, and /c/.
For writing this week we will begin informational paragraphs about an American symbol, such as the flag, the Statue of Liberty, or the bald eagle.

Math:
We will begin a chapter on time this week. This week's objectives are to identify and discriminate between morning, afternoon, and evening; to name and sequence the days of the week; to read and use a calendar; and to explain the words today, yesterday, and tomorrow.
Next week we will begin telling time on analog and digital clocks.

Social Studies:
This week we will continue to learn about US symbols and the Pledge of Allegiance. The kids will also learn about the presidents who are on US coins.

If anyone has photos of our trip to the pumpkin patch or from any other class activities, would you please email them to me? I am getting pictures together for our class page in the yearbook.

Thank you, parents and families!
Have a great weekend, and please email with any questions or concerns.
