Week of March 11, 2013

Hello Room 4 Families!
I'd like to give a BIG thank you to the parents who came on our field trip to the State Capitol today, and to Sarah Z'berg, Jim DeBoo, and Adriana Sanchez-Ochoa for getting us special access to the Senate and Assembly floors, and again to Sarah Z'berg for the great tour. The kids had a marvelous time on the trip, and they wrote amazing paragraphs about what they saw and learned when we got back.

Important Dates:
Thursday, 3/14: "Pi Day". The kids are encouraged to dress up as geniuses (computer engineers, scientists, inventors, etc.)
Friday, March 22: Free dress day
Monday, March 25-Friday, March 29: Spring Break

Language Arts:
This week we continue our "Red, White and Blue" unit. We are reading and learning about patriotism, what it means to be a good citizen, and about American symbols.
We will focus on the sounds of /c/, /r/, and short u, and we will continue to read and write words with all of the sounds and spellings we have focused on in past weeks.
We are continuing to work on expository paragraphs about an American symbol in writing.

Math:
This week we are continuing the chapter on time.We will work on telling time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks.

Social Studies:
We are continuing to learn about American symbols and patriotism.

If anyone has any photos of the class, please email them to me at carrie.relles@gmail.com. I am turning in a disc for our yearbook page this week! Thank you!

Thanks, parents, for everything you do! Have a great weekend
