Week of November 12-16, 2012

Hello Room 4 families!
I hope your long weekend is off to a good start. Here is what is happening in our room this week:

Important dates:
Monday, November 12: Veterans' Day; no school

Tuesday, November 13-Friday, November 16: parent/teacher conferences; shortened days. Your kids can be picked up from the cafeteria at 12:20
I enjoyed talking with several of you last week about your childrens' report cards and progress so far this year. Thank you to everyone for attending conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with everyone this week!

Monday, November 19-Friday, November 23: Thanksgiving Break; no school

Friday, November 30: free dress day/picture make-up day.

Language arts:
We will continue our unit on Finding Friends. If your child has any books they would like to share that fit this theme they are welcome to bring them in.
We are starting to work on blending word parts orally in class. This exercise leads to improved reading skills later on. The kids love blending and are very successful with it.
New sight words: do, has, and who.
We are cointinuing to work on writing sentences in our journals and responding to the stories we read.
We will continue working on adjectives. This week the kids will learn that adjectives can describe how many.

Math: We will finish our unit on numbers 6-10 this week. We have begun comparing numbers 1-10 to find which group has more, which has less, and whether or not groups are equal. We will also work on ordering numbers 1-10, and take our chapter test on Thursday.

We are looking for old puzzle pieces for an art project! If you have any old puzzles (with small pieces) at home that you'd like to get rid of, please bring them by room 4. We will use them in December for an art project with our 5th grade buddies.

Thanks, parents for everything you do!
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or concerns!
